Soft Pink Blooms Summon Fleets of Hummingbirds!
Weigela is a family of fine perennial bushes, the most ornamental of which is W. florida, the species which most garden varieties come from. W. florida grows a bush of long, serrate leaves and puts on plush 5-lobed flowers for a long bloom show that often spans 3 seasons! These blooms are generally pink or white, and they excel at attracting bees, butterflies and hummingbirds into your garden to play. But thankfully, larger wildlife (like deer) find them less attractive. New cultivars of W. florida have improved the species in many ways, from new foliage colors (dramatic black; handsome variegation) to a convenient dwarf habit that fits this exquisite variety beautifully in cramped modern gardens. Weigela prefers fertile, well-drained soil in full sun, but is extremely adaptable to differing conditions.
