Compact Enough for Containers!

The feathery flowers turn from pink to white over their long season.
The most compact of all the Miscanthus available today, Adagio delights with colorful foliage changes as well as a long, lovely season of bloom. Rely on this Dwarf Eulalia Grass to provide year-round, trouble-free beauty in any sunny garden spot.

Quickly forming a tight, compact clump with long, slender, arching silvery-green leaves, Adagio reaches just 3 to 4 feet high and wide when not in bloom. That period is limited to spring and early summer, however, for by late summer long, slender, yet very strong stems have shot up over the top of the plant, topped by loose panicles of pale pink. Fluttering like flags in the breeze, these blooms turn beige in autumn and white for winter, remaining on the plant all season in most climates. Cut them for fresh arrangements or for everlastings, or leave them on the plant for winter architecture. Striking!

The foliage also demonstrates multiple seasons of beauty. In autumn, when the temperature drops, the leaves turn bright yellow, keeping their color into winter.

The only maintenance Adagio needs is a severe trim in late winter, to remove the old growth and prepare for the new. Given this, it is long-lived and lovely!

This ornamental grass tolerates many different soil types but thrives best in moist, well-drained settings. It can tolerate a bit of shade, but the best color is usually in full sun. And it is compact enough to be a container specimen!

Use Adagio in the border, along the baking driveway (it's quite heat- and humidity-tolerant), as a street planting, or in the foundation. It makes a lovely mass planting in open settings as well. And as a patio pot plant, it adds multi-season color and texture to outdoor entertainment areas. Versatile, easy, and long-lived! Zones 5-9.
