Winner of a 2014 All-America Selection, Akila® Daisy White sets sparkling, wide-open 2-inch daisies from spring through summer on compact, very well-branched plants that are easy to grow and never need pinching. Sunshine and good soil drainage are Daisy White's main requirements, though it also appreciates regular feedings to keep those flowers coming.
Just 10 to 14 inches high and 10 to 12 inches wide, Daisy White is a good size for mixed plantings as well as individual pots. In the garden bed, its pure white petals make all neighboring colors a little brighter. And the flowers make excellent cuts for the vase, lasting a long time and refusing to flop.
This neat, uniform plant is tolerant of both heat and cold, and once established is able to withstand periods of drought quite well. It brings bees and butterflies to the garden, and is an all-around crowd pleaser! If you have grown Osteos before, you will be very surprised indeed by the ruggedness and adaptability of Daisy White.
And it is surprisingly easy to start from seed. Eight to 10 weeks before last spring frost in your area, germinate the seeds at 64 to 68 degrees F, setting them on top of the bio-sponge in the Bio Dome or uncovered on the soil of the seed flat, as they need light to germinate. Keep the medium moist until germination, which usually occurs within 2 weeks. No pinching is necessary during the growth process. Transplant them into garden or container as soon as possible after last frost in spring. Pkt is 10 seeds.
