Great for fresh and dried arrangements!

Bloomstalks reach 2 feet long!
Your grandmother probably grew this splendid Love-Lies-Bleeding in her annual bed, and we are delighted to be able to offer this heirloom seed once again to American gardens! All summer long (and sometimes even into fall!) you'll be regaled with bold, blood-red blooms that "drip" in weeping stems up to 2 feet long! Terrific for fresh and dried arrangements, this Amaranthus is a conversation piece and a fine source of vertical texture for your sunny annual bed or border!

The flowers really stand out in long, slender, utterly prostrate 18- to 24-inch stems. They make fine additions to large arrangements, either as background color or bold front-and-center accents. And if you dry them, you can enjoy them all winter long as Everlastings! There is even a rare green variety, also an heirloom, that makes the perfect companion planting!

The plant grows quickly and easily in any well-drained soil receiving full sunshine. Expect it to reach anywhere from 3 to 5 feet tall and 18 to 30 inches wide. If you like Amaranthus, take a look at the other colorful offerings of this splendid family -- Illumination, Perfecta (a true Summer Poinsettia!), and the highly unusual Towers series, among others! And Love-Lies-Bleeding is a fine companion to other annuals from Zinnia to Pentas.

Attention-getting even from across the garden, Love-Lies-Bleeding is a must-have for cutflower lovers and annual gardeners alike. Find out just how easy it is to grow and impossible not to love! Pkt is 200 seeds.

Unusual Plant
Papa from MI wrote (September 04, 2011):
I was visiting my daughter in Mass. when I first saw one of these plants in a neighbor's garden. I thought it was very unusual and wanted to grow one. When I came back home to Mi I researched the plant and located seeds at Park and ordered some. I tried to start them indoors last March, but was unable to get the seeds to start. I kept putting more seeds in the starter pots on the windowsill but they would not take hold. Finally in about latter May, I put the pots outside in out raised perennial bed. They finally started to grow. Once they got going I transplanted them directly into the bed. I only transplanted three plants. They grew very fast, after that. Around early August, the tassels formed. One of them is almost four feet long on a plant that is over five feet tall. The other two plants did not get that tall but they, too, have tassels. My plants turned out to be a single stalk, not wide like the plant in the catalog picture. That is OK though because they take up less room in the garden.
