Apple Carolina Red
First crop is in early to midsummer, second in fall!
Carolina Red (also known as Georgia June, Red Harvest, and Blush June, among other names) is a small tree just 8 to 12 feet high and wide with a big crop of small to medium-sized round apples in early to midsummer. With speckled red skin and crisp white flesh often tinged with red, this fruit is delicious, both for fresh eating and for pies. After its big production, it often reblooms in summer and then sets a smaller second crop in autumn!
Carolina Red is not a storing apple; it is meant to be eaten or preserved immediately. Luckily, it is so delicious that this is never a problem! Aromatic and crunchy, these apples have a way of vanishing between the tree and the back door!
This is a well-branched, stocky little tree, upright and vigorous. Its rootstock is "MM.111," known for its drought tolerance and good adaptability. Carolina Red is just the right size for today's smaller gardens, and combines well with our other two heirlooms this season, Roxbury Russet and Grimes Golden. It does need a pollinator, so plant at least two apples and enjoy the richness of a miniature orchard in your own backyard, no matter how constrained you may be for space!
We are delighted to make these American heirloom apples available, but our stock is very, very limited. If you're interested in these trees, reserve yours today. You will reap the rewards for many years to come! Zones 5-8.
