Ornamental peppers seem to just get better and better, so it's no surprise to us that Black Hawk has won a 2016 All-America Selection! This early-flowering, early-fruiting beauty continues its production all the way through fall, and is so bushy and full that it spills out of baskets, flowerpots, and window boxes beautifully!

Easy to start from seed, Black Hawk is a hybrid pepper with foliage that turns from dark green to smoky purple, complementing the flowers and fruit. It begins setting small ½-inch blooms a few weeks sooner than most others. The flowers are quickly followed by fruit -- conical, upturned, and simply lovely!

These peppers begin green, then quickly turn charcoal black before ripening to brightest red. Very spicy, they are not recommending for eating -- only because they are so beautiful ornamentally! But the peppery aroma does help to keep nibbling pests away, which is another reason to grow Black Hawk!

Expect this bushy, very well-branched little plant to reach 10 to 12 inches high and about 8 inches wide. It begins flowering and fruiting early, but it goes late -- through fall in most climates. And the play of green-to-purple foliage plus black-to-red fruit is really gorgeous, month after month!

Black Hawk was chosen for an All-America Selection in the regions of the southeast and the Heartland, where many peppers have problems from excessive humidity during the summer. Black Hawk is very resistant to this, flourishing where others have failed. No matter where you live, you will love it!

Start seeds indoors about 7 to 10 weeks before the last anticipated spring frost date. Do not transplant until the spring soil has warmed and the seedlings have at least 2 sets of true leaves. Fertilize when the blooms appear, and water well. Packet is 10 seeds.
