Blue Mist Shrub
One of Nature’s Truest Blues!
There are few true blues in the gardening world, and the rich, deep blue of Caryopteris (Blue spirea, Blue-mist, or Bluebeard) is about as close as you can get! Either a shrub or a woody perennial, Caryopteris forms a low, neat mound that is drought tolerant, pest resistant, and virtually maintenance free. Caryopteris blooms -- typically shades of blue or purple -- appear by the hundred in late summer, clustered in panicles above the foliage and drawing in butterflies and beneficial insects. Even the foliage is attractive, coming in shades of blue-green, silver-gray, or yellow, sometimes with variegation!
