A Broadleaf Evergreen Shrub
The gorgeous blooms adorn the attractive dark green foliage in mid- to late season, drawing butterflies and bees to the garden. They are a real standout on the broadleaf evergreen shrub, which reaches a mature size of 6 to 7 feet high and 5 to 6 feet wide.
Plant 'Calsap' in moist, well-drained, rich, acidic soil and provide morning sun. It will do best if protected from harsh summer and winter sun as well as wind. Sandy or dry soil as well as heavy clay should be amended before planting with peat moss, peat humus, or compost. Mulching will help retain moisture, control weeds, and keep the roots cool. Because it is a shallow-rooted plant, it is easy for them to dry out. However, do not over water. If pruning is necessary, do so immediately after flowering so as not to accidentally remove the buds forming for the next year's bloom. Zones 4-7.
