Colorful Pinwheels Twice a Year!

Deer avoid it, but butterflies and hummingbirds can't stay away!
Floriferous, easy to grow, and so cheerful, this cultivar of the native species sets masses of white blooms broadly striped down the center in lavender-pink. The heaviest bloom is in late spring, but if the plant is sheared back promptly after the flowers pass, they often reappear in autumn!

'Candy Stripe' is a creeping groundcover, perfect for any sunny spot -- including difficult slopes, banks, rock gardens, terraced plantings, and other challenging spots. It makes a splendid mass planting, filling in between stones and winding around obstacles, and it also edges paths beautifully. The foliage is bright green and needle-like, evergreen and very resilient. And the flowers are set just above the leaves, for a carpet of color.

Deer leave 'Candy Stripe' alone, but hummingbirds and butterflies are frequent visitors. This Creeping Phlox is resistant to cold, heat, humidity, and even (once established) drought. Set its crown at soil level or just above at planting time, and given good drainage it will take off! Zones 2-9.
