Cape Breeze Switchgrass
In late summer the grass is crowned with airy amber seedheads.
This easy native switchgrass grows a compact, upright clump of handsome foliage that stays green until Halloween, but its real claim to fame is its airy amber seedheads, which arise very early so you can watch them dance in the wind all season long! Birds love the seeds, and the plumes make excellent fresh or dried indoor arrangements.
Vigorous but never invasive, 'Cape Breeze' is very drought tolerant once established, and untroubled by pests or diseases. This compact Panicum virgatum cultivar stays under 3 feet tall, making it a great choice for small space gardens. Very low maintenance, it repays a little pampering the first season with years of carefree beauty. 1 Quart container. Zones 4 to 9.
