Carex Prairie Fire
Endlessly colorful, endlessly interesting!
This is a tufted evergreen grass, leafing out with burnt-sienna leaf tips and tangerine to mahogany streaks on the long, very slender olive-green leaves. The texture is wiry yet graceful, very striking in any setting. It offers great contrast to trailing and flowering plants, adding architectural interest and casting fascinating shadows. All of this even before it burnishes rich ember shades of deep orange and scarlet in autumn!
And this grass is so easy that you just can't go wrong. It thrives in full sunshine or very light shade, tolerating heat, humidity, and even drought without greening out or dropping a leaf. Consistently moist soil with excellent drainage is best, but it will adapt to periods of drought and wet if need be. Imagine it marching along the foundation, edging the border, forming the focal point of a mixed container, or waving from a bank or slope!
This seed is easy to start, too. Cover it well to germinate, and you should see sprouts in about 2 weeks. It's perennial in zones 7-10, and grown as an annual everywhere else. Never invasive -- just easy to grow and irresistible year-round! Pkt is 30 seeds.
