Caryopteris 'First Choice' PP#11,958
Fragrant foliage wafts a sweet summer scent throughout the garden!
A spectacular deep blue Caryopteris! More compact and better branched than other varieties, 'First Choice' blooms from midsummer through early fall, with aromatic, silvery-green foliage to spare!
This flowering shrub offers one of the most striking shades of blue -- a rich cobalt seldom found in nature -- to the garden. Opening from inky-blue buds, these blooms form 6-inch spikes that point up and out from the dense, well-branched plant. Even before the blooms arise, 'First Choice' is valuable for its aromatic silvery-green foliage, which creates an airy, cool look in the sunny to lightly shaded garden.
Just 2 feet tall and 2 1/2 feet wide, 'First Choice' is small enough for a container, and makes a lovely low hedge or stately edging. It has a looser, more airy habit and begins blooming a bit later than 'First Choice.'
'First Choice' thrives in loose, well-drained soil, needing little maintenance other than a pruning in late winter (it flowers on new wood). Easy to transplant and widely adapted to soil type, this Caryopteris is a gift for the "blah" season! Zones 5-9.
