Glamini® Kelly Gladiolus - Pack of 5
No staking -- so compact you can grow it in a pot!
Kelly sports long stalks studded with up to 20 blooms of bright magenta at the tip and paler pink toward the center. Not only are these flowers vibrant, they're huge -- expect them to open up to 8 inches wide! A single stalk grabs the eye from way across the garden, so imagine a stand of them in your sunny garden, on the patio, or in the vase!
And Kelly begins blooming about 2 weeks earlier than traditional Glads, so they're in full force by midsummer and linger into the later part of the season. Each flower lasts almost 3 weeks, so you get a big show from even a small planting.
Glamini™ (at first we rhymed this name with "bikini," but then we figured out that it's probably a mash-up of Glad + mini) is super-easy to grow in sunny, well-drained soil. The plant reaches 20 to 24 inches high and about 8 to 10 inches wide, the flowering stem banked by long, bright green, sword-shaped leaves. It's best in groups of at least 6 (though even a single flowering stem adds an incredible pop of color to any scene). And it is wind resistant enough to never need staking, which alone makes it our Glad of choice for our trial gardens!
Glamini® Kelly is incredibly versatile. Small enough for beds, pots, or window boxes, but beautiful enough for vases and bouquets, these bulbs will serve you well wherever you plant them--be sure to order extras! Our fresh, top-quality bulbs often set 2 flower spikes that will bloom in succession! And to extend your Glamini® show in the garden, stagger your planting from late spring until the end of June.
Plant Glamini® Kelly about 3 inches deep in a well-drained spot (sun to partial shade). Space plants 3 to 4 inches apart, and give them average water. With little to no help they will burst forth with color in the summer. They are highly pest resistant, and about the only thing that will kill them is cold. After the bloom show is done, they go dormant in the winter. In zone 7 or higher you should dig up the tubers and over-winter them indoors, then replant in the spring. Zones 8 to 10 (but up to 3 with over-wintering).
