Gold Rush Dawn Redwood
The foliage grows in distinctive rows of needle-like leaves.
Less gargantuan than the well-known green variety, Dawn Redwood still grows very swiftly (from 1 to 4 feet a year!) and reaches an ultimate size of up to 100 feet tall! Needless to say, be sure to grow it somewhere where it will have plenty of room!
'Ogon', also known as Gold Rush, is also far more beautiful than your average Redwood. The foliage is brilliantly colored and finely textured, making 'Ogon' a perfect specimen to add height to an Asian-inspired woodland garden, serve as the centerpiece for a jungle design, or create a large, lovely privacy screen!
Dawn Redwood is often referred to as the 'living fossil tree' because it has survived for so long Practically unchanged. It just goes to show that you can't improve on perfection! Relatively narrow and tall, this pyramidal conifer creates a golden spire that will be a welcome addition in any landscape!
Grow 'Ogon' in full sun or a bit of shade in a well-drained spot. Dawn Redwood prefers acidic and evenly moist soil. General-purpose fertilizer can be applied in early spring before new growth begins. This variety tolerates pollution, heat, humidity, and sun very well, just be sure it gets a deep watering once a week to maintain its vigorous growing habits.
