This Red Hot Poker variety is a brilliant way to add color to your beds, borders, or patio containers and also attract nectar-loving wildlife! The architectural flower spikes arise from elegant, grass-like foliage, offering their clear lemon-yellow florets and their sweet scent up to your garden's visitors (humans, butterflies, and hummingbirds alike). Red Hot Pokers normally flower late in the summer, but thanks to careful breeding, 'Lemon Popsicle' starts flowering in June and goes right through to October! This compact, easy-to-grow plant is a stunning accent in any garden or cutflower arrangement.

The 6-inch flower spikes are heavily laden with vibrant yellow florets. They last up to 6 weeks on the plant, and make great cut-flowers. And you may want to use them as cuts, because the sooner you cut one flower, the quicker a new one springs up in its place!

The season of bloom can easily stretch 5 months, beginning with the first gust of hot weather and continuing through mid-fall in many climates. Hummingbirds adore the flowers, and you'll find that this plant blooms cheerfully despite heat, humidity, and drought. Deer tend to leave it alone, which only adds to its appeal in open settings. You just can't go wrong with 'Lemon Popsicle'!

Quickly reaching its full size at just 14 inches wide and high, this Kniphofia is about 20 inches tall when flowers are adding to the height. It's a good size for the border, accent plantings, the foundation, and large containers, making a nice "exclamation point" to mounding and trailing plants. Just give it plenty of sunshine and good soil drainage, and off it goes!

Because Kniphofia does not bloom based on day length, but rather on temperature, it is ideal for hotter climates like the deep South. 'Lemon Popsicle' likes plenty of water during summer, but needs very well-drained soil in winter. In climates where the ground freezes, it should be mulched well for winter too. Other than that, it is very easy to grow, and so stunning in the garden!

Treat yourself to a sweet citrine source of beauty for many years to come. Add 'Lemon Popsicle' to your garden this season! Zones 6-9.
