The most impressive Red Hot Poker variety, 'Mango Popsicle' grows swiftly up to its full 30-inch height and flowers very quickly and freely. The flower scapes are positively bursting in tubular mango-orange spikes all through summer and into fall. The foliage is a basal tuft of thin, grass-like evergreen leaves that grow into naked flower scapes. The vibrant orange blooms are full of nectar and fragrance, inviting butterflies and hummingbirds from all around to come and have a sip. This easy-to-grow plant is an asset to any garden, and is also excellent in cutflower arrangements.

The foot-long flower spikes are bursting with vibrant orange florets. They last up to 6 weeks on the plant, and make great cut-flowers. And you may want to use them as cuts, because the sooner you cut one flower, the quicker a new one springs up in its place!

The season of bloom can easily stretch 5 months, beginning with the first gust of hot weather and continuing through mid-fall in many climates. Hummingbirds adore the flowers, and you'll find that this plant blooms cheerfully despite heat, humidity, and drought. Deer tend to leave it alone, which only adds to its appeal in open settings. You just can't go wrong with 'Mango Popsicle'!

Quickly reaching its full size of 18 inches high and 12 inches wide, this Kniphofia shoots up to 30 inches tall when its luxurious flowerspikes come on. It's a good middle size for the border, foundation, or large containers, and its upright habit makes it a nice "exclamation point" to mounding and trailing plants. Just give it plenty of sunshine and good soil drainage, and off it goes!

Because Kniphofia does not bloom based on day length, but rather on temperature, it is ideal for hotter climates like the deep South. 'Mango Popsicle' likes plenty of water during summer, but needs very well-drained soil in winter. 'Mango Popsicle' prefers richer soils, and will respond to a little fertilizing. In climates where the ground freezes, it should be mulched well for winter too. Other than that, it is very easy to grow, and so stunning in the garden!

Treat yourself to a sweet treat for many years to come with 'Mango Popsicle'! Zones 5-9.
