Hardy in zones 8-11, and happily overwinters indoors farther north!

Elegant pyramidal form just 12 to 15 feet high and wide!
Consider making this Mediterranean native a permanent part of your herb garden, even if you live far north of its zone 8-11 hardiness range. It is fragrant and beautiful, and if planted in a container will keep itself to a modest size. Its bright golden to green leaves have wavy edges, fabulous fragrance, and a good flavor for stews and sauces. It's the ideal edible ornamental!

When planted in garden soil where it is hardy, Sweet Bay Laurel can eventually reach 35 feet tall, but it is a very slow grower, and in containers will stay much smaller. An evergreen, it looks and smells fabulous year-round, and its fresh emerald-green spring foliage is magnificent. You'll want to place this shrub where you can enjoy its rich aroma and lovely presence every day. As it grows, it also makes a wonderful windbreak and privacy planting for the garden!

Native to the Mediterranean, Sweet Bay is a warm-weather shrub, but can easily be grown far north of its hardiness range by bringing it indoors (or to a frost-free location) for winter. Long-lived, unappetizing to nibbling deer and rabbits, and very low maintenance, it is a must-have for cooks and gardeners alike! Zones 8-11.
