Lavatera Twins Hot Pink
Winner of Europe's top honors, and one glance shows you why!
These blooms are splendid -- a full 3 to 3½ inches wide, with petals so bright (they're a deep rosy-pink) you can spot them from down the street. They arise PROFUSELY on compact plants just 12 to 16 inches high and 12 to 20 inches wide -- none of those huge, sprawling Tree Mallows that send branches in all directions!
And the flowers start earlier -- you'll see the buds with the first summer breeze, and the final blooms won't pass until fall chills nip them back -- than any other variety. You simply won't believe the tireless bloom power of this little plant, as weeks turn into months and you're still cutting big flowering branches and watching new blooms unfurl!
Twins Hot Pink is also far more disease-resistant than other Lavateras, fending off nibbling insects quite nicely and keeping its fresh, just-opened look right through summer. Use this plant as a low hedge or screen, as filler for any bare ground in the border, and even for large containers. It belongs alongside its twin, white, anywhere the sun is relentless and the soil is reasonably well-drained. (In very hot climates, the Twins are also happy in light or dappled shade.)
I recommend Twins Hot Pink most highly for anyone who values a long bloom season, tropical color, and low-maintenance care. Pkt is 25 seeds.
