A Huge Astilbe with Huge Blooms!

The lush salmon-pink flowerstalks reach up to 4 feet high!
Like the name says, this is one mighty false Spiraea. 'Mighty Pip' is exceptionally large, reaching up to 4 feet tall, and it also quite hardy and robust: 'Mighty Pip' is both more cold tolerant (to zone 3) and more heat tolerant (to zone 8) than other Astilbe. It is also more tolerant of varying soil types, and particularly resistant to deer and other garden nibblers.

The blooms come on in early- to midsummer, adding a gorgeous salmon pink accent to any shady border or sheltered bed. The massed effect is stunning; use clusters of 'Mighty Pip' to create a gorgeous effect in any woodland area. And of course the splendid foliage is a welcome addition to the vase. The fragrant blooms even make great dried flowers!

Astilbe likes part shade, rich soil, and frequent watering (especially when blooming). 'Mighty Pip' is no exception: give it part to full shade and even moisture to let these blooms reach their full glorious potential. Do your part, and 'Mighty Pip' will reward you with years of reliable beauty--especially since it is deer- and pest-resistant! It is an excellent choice for borders that receive any exposure from dappled sunlight to nearly full shade. Long-lived and low maintenance, it is a perennial to be treasured in the shade! Zones 3 to 8.
