Moonrise Full Moon Japanese Maple
Both the spring and fall foliage is red!
The beloved Full Moon Maple has never been so resplendent! This beautifully shaped, compact little tree delights with bright red spring foliage, chartreuse tones in summer, and autumn leaves of darker red. With an open form and good sun tolerance, it is adaptable, easy, and always beautiful.
The show begins in spring, when new leaves unfurl a neon-bright shade of red. Long-lobed and elegant, they are attention-getting even from a distance. They keep their color for many weeks, only gradually becoming a bold shade of chartreuse in the summer heat.
When the temperature falls in autumn, the leaves burnish red again -- a bit darker this time, and garnet-hued. The fall foliage remains on the tree for several weeks before dropping into a crimson pool on the garden floor.
'Moonrise' is a vigorous grower, eventually reaching about 8 feet high and wide. It is adaptable to large containers, and makes a fine specimen as well as a standout in the border. The form is open yet well-branched, and it tolerates a bit more sun than many other Full Moon Maples.
Best in partial shade and well-drained, acidic soil, this maple tolerates a wide range of soil types -- just about anything except high salt. It is a good choice for heavy and clay soils, and doesn't mind the heat and humidity of the south and midwest. A lovely garden accent, certain to become your favorite in both spring and fall every year. Zones 5-9.
