Intensely lush double blooms on evergreen foliage!

This dwarf sasanqua boasts a lovely habit and a rare fall-to-winter bloom show!
The petal-packed, fully double white blooms resemble Peonies or the white Camellia 'Mine-No-Yuki', but October Magic® Ivory handily out-performs its peers with a dense, upright habit that needs no training to keep it from going prostrate or spindly. Use this ivory cultivar to add an elegant statement to screens, hedges, the back of the border, or even a bouquet!

Commonly referred to as "dwarf sasanqua," the species C. hiemalis is both smaller and more cold hardy (up to zone 6 or 7) than sasanqua, but offers the same profusion of gorgeous medium-sized blooms. The October Magic® series is a Green Nurseries introduction offered through the Southern Living Plant Collection. This series represents a great improvement over the species, with plants that are more vigorous, disease resistant, and that continue the fall blooming season later into the winter.

Like other Camellias, October Magic® Ivory will tolerate a wide variety of soil conditions, but they really thrive in organically rich, acidic soil. Their shape tends to be naturally beautiful and relatively compact, making pruning unnecessary. If you choose to prune, do so in very early spring before the buds have formed. Broken shade is ideal: it will tolerate full sun well, but only if it stays well watered. Zones 7 to 9.
