Paraplu™ Hydrangea Shrub
Like Thousands of Bright Umbrellas!
The name means "umbrella" in French, and that's just what these abundant double flowers resemble -- thousands of bright parasols dangling in the sunny to partly shaded garden or your best patio container! Compact, heavy-blooming, and utterly distinctive, Paraplu™ is a joy to behold, and so easy to grow!
Just 2½ to 3 feet high and wide, this heat-tolerant little shrub begins flowering in earliest summer and continues all season long. Cut the long, pendulous flowerheads for indoor arrangements if you like -- they make fine fresh or dried bouquets, lasting a long time. And don't worry; there are plenty more flowers left on the shrub to enjoy all season!
Paraplu™ is sensitive to soil type, as many Hydrangeas are. You will find the flowers to be bright candy-pink in alkaline (lime) soils, and more purple and dark in acidic ones. It doesn't reach the true blue of some Hydrangeas, but the pink tones are exceptionally rich and bright.
These florets dangle downward, creating lovely canopies all over this super-floriferous shrub. They stand up to punishing heat and humidity, lasting a long time, and really "pop" even from a distance. Paraplu™ is destined to be one of your "wow" plants!
Give this Hydrangea full sun in cool northern climates, partial shade farther south and west, and make sure the soil stays continuously moist for best growth and blooming. Other than that, this deciduous beauty needs no attention to bloom heavily for decades! Zones 5-9.
