When you're serious about growing from seed, never waste another one with the perfect mix of heat, light, and water!

Item # 96851
Available to ship.
We are very excited to introduce this complete seed starter and plant growth kit! It contains everything you need to begin the garden indoors, root cuttings, overwinter tender plants, and give any seedling or plant the perfect amount of heat and light to enable it to thrive indoors. You will find it endlessly useful throughout your gardening career, and we highly recommend you give it a try this season!

The kit consists of an adjustable light stand with wide-spectrum grow lights provided by two 20-watt bulbs (included, and we've got replacements when you're ready for them -- see item 36583); a sturdy growing tray with a clear vented humidity dome; a 72-cell divided tray of Jiffy peat disks (included, and we've got replacements when you're ready for them -- see item 09093); a heat mat; 50 4-inch white label sticks; and a waterproof marker to use for labeling. All you add is seeds, an outlet for the lights and heat mat, and water to rehydrate the Jiffy disks!

The light stand measures 22¾ inches long, 12 inches wide, and 8½ inches high. The seed-starting tray and dome together reach 22 inches wide by 11 inches high, while the heat mat is 19½ inches long by 9 inches deep. This is a comfortable size for a tabletop, counter, or even the top of the fridge (that time-honored position for seed starting!) And as your plants grow, you can remove the humidity dome and adjust the lights as you wish, ensuring that you get just the right amount! It's a custom greenhouse in miniature!

Park's Complete Light and Starter Kit is designed to last a lifetime, and we guarantee you will be delighted by its versatility and reliability. When you're serious about gardening from seed, this is the system you need! Highly recommended. 20 watts.

How long should grow lights be kept on per day and how close to the plants should the light be kept?

For germination and seedling/plant growth, you want to simulate the natural day-night cycles, and as a general rule, grow lights should be on 8-12 hours per day and off at night. You can vary this timing, as some seeds such as tomato, pepper, petunia, impatiens, and others, benefit from 14-17 hours of light per day (and the remainder of the 24 hour period in darkness). The most common grow lights used are fluorescent; using cool white, warm white, and wide-spectrum fluorescent tubes. These lights work well for germination and for growing plants up to a transplantable size. Fluorescent lights should be kept close though, 3-6 inches above the soil or the growing plants, adjusting the height as the plants grow.
