Like huge, jagged tongues of flame, Flare's vivid scarlet-red bloomspikes pierce the landscape with color so intense it almost shimmers! These 18-inch plants are excellent for the landscape, standing out even when planted behind lower-growing plants, and unbelievable in a mass planting. One of the most heat-tolerant of this very heat-tolerant family, Flare is the Salvia to grow in those blazing trouble spots where little else has been successful. It is remarkably floriferous over an extra-long season, and thrives on neglect! Like all Sage, it brings butterflies and hummingbirds into the garden by the dozen, adding to the color show even further.
Direct-sow this Salvia or begin the seeds indoors for even earlier blooms. Not fussy about soil, it flourishes in blazing sun to dappled shade, tolerating heat, drought, and other vagaries of the weather.
