Concentrated crop set makes harvest easy!

Early-maturing!
65 days. A mainstay of cuisine around the world, Soybeans are at last becoming a staple on the American table as well! This dwarf plant is a terrific way to grow all you need in very little garden space. Just 1-foot tall, Early Hakucho sets the pods in a very concentrated fashion, and because they all mature at the same time, you can harvest them by simply pulling up the entire plant!

Grow Early Hakucho as you would a snap bean, spacing about 4 inches apart and watering very thoroughly during dry periods. One of the best crops for warm climates, it is quite tolerant of high heat. Harvest when the pods are just beginning to bulge with seeds. We include recipes for this delicious high-protein vegetable with your order. Pkt is 50 seeds.

Great bean but.....
Doug from NC wrote (February 10, 2012):
I grew these once and like them but.......... The seeds are a bit expensive for what you get. I had bad luck sprouting one package and so I replanted a second package. So then I had $8.50 worth of seeds for 20 + plants. One thing that has me puzzled is that soybeans are the number one crop grown in US, (I believe), so why do soy seeds cost so much? They are not like green beans where the plant just keeps on producing. You get one crop and the plant is done. I love Edamame, but found out that Sam's club has huge bags already shelled for very cheap and so it's really worth all the effort to grow your own. Just my .02, your mileage may vary
best for fresh
ed from MS wrote (February 05, 2012):
I've tried 3 different varieties and for fresh eating these are the best, good yield but more importantly they mature evenly. I've had some varieties that were good, but the pods matured at different rates and you;d never get enough to eat. These all mature at about the same time so you can get about a meal per person per plant.
Tasty soybeans
Hawaiianelle from HI wrote (August 24, 2011):
I planted this variety for the very first time and have was very happy with the results. Almost every soybean sprouted and gave us between 24-30 beans per plant. These can be planted close together. I spaced them about 3-4 inches apart and they did fine. The seeds sprouted in 4 days and we harvested just over 2 months later. Even if we could have yanked the whole plant out for harvesting I just picked the ones that were fatter and left the others for another week or so. We found these taste better if you pick them young rather than letting them get really fat in the pod. I ordered this same variety from Burpee and hardly any of the seeds sprouted. Very disappointing. I'll be ordering my soybeans from Park Seeds from now on.
