Spear & Jackson Digging Spade
Our large digging spade is made of carbon-forged steel with a split-ash handle.
The spade stands 43 inches high -- the shaft is 30 inches, while the head is 11 inches long and 7 inches wide. These proportions are just about perfect for getting all the torque you need to turn over stubborn soil, break up clots, and tamp down soil after planting.
The straight, rectangular design of the spade head is particularly useful for cutting a straight trench, marking rows in the vegetable garden, and getting purchase on a tough dig with your feet at the top of the steel blade. Every spadeful of earth counts with this tool, and you'll love how easy it is to dig under those bean plants, work in compost, and spread a smooth layer of mulch.
The head is composed of forged-carbon steel -- solid-forged, from a single piece of steel, so there are no weak point or bumpy welds to contend with. Into the top of the blade is fitted a split-ash handle, weatherproofed with a hammer-finished epoxy coating that stands up effortlessly to rust, humidity, and soil alkalis. Season after season, your Spear & Jackson digging spade will be ready for the toughest garden chores!
