Grow a Wall of Blushing Spring Blooms

Spring Welcome® blooms early with lush pink-on-white flowers.
Fill your landscape with glossy semi-evergreen foliage and enjoy a spectacular show of early spring blooms! Spring Welcome®, previously known as Magnolia loebneri 'Ruth,' is an amazing specimen with very early, lush blooms and exceptional cold hardiness. Spring Welcome ® is an effective accent for the periphery of a woodland area, or a specimen tree for the lawn or border.

These miraculous blooms come on early in spring (around March) before the plant is even leafed out, and each bloom opens up to 4 ½ inches in diameter and overflowing with 11 or more tepals! The tepals are blushed in rosy pink when they come on, but mature into a pristine snow white. These showy, fragrant blooms make perfect cutflowers--place one in a bowl of water, and it will stay fresh for weeks!

This cross of Magnolia x loebneri 'Ruth' is a deciduous tree with a spreading, rounded crown. The bright green foliage has a narrow-obovate shape. In the fall, greenish seed pods split open to reveal the red seeds.

Plant in full sun to part shade in a spot with some room to grow over time--Spring Welcome® reaches 15 to 18 feet high and wide at maturity. Give this Magnolia average, well-drained soil and a moderate amount of water. Spring Welcome ® shows no serious disease or pest problems. Late spring frost may damage early blooms, but will not kill the tree--in fact, 'Spring Welcome' has proven hardy in temperatures as low as -40 degrees F! Zones 4 to 8.
