Thuja American Pillar
Stands up to everything from heat and humidity to ice and heavy snow loads!
Destined to be the most useful and interesting tree in your garden, American Pillar is a tall, very slender, ultra-adaptable evergreen conifer that grows quickly and looks terrific year-round. An American native with all of the vigor you'd expect, it's just what you're looking for in a landmark, privacy screen, windbreak, or back-of-the-border standout!
At maturity American Pillar can reach 20 to 30 feet tall, but it remains just 5 to 7 feet wide. This "telephone pole" shape is ideal for a variety of uses, especially in small-space gardens where you want a lot of height but can't afford much breadth! And American Pillar is densely clothed in fragrant deep green foliage right down to the ground -- no "bare legs" here!
Quick-growing and disease-resistant, American Pillar never needs pruning. Pamper it the first season or two to get its root system established, then watch it take off, adding several feet of growth each year!
Impervious to heat, humidity, and drought, American Pillar also stands up to poor soil, cold, ice, and even heavy snow loads. It won't lose its rich green color in winter, either. Just give it well-drained soil in full sun to light shade, and away it goes!
If you like the narrow habit of American Pillar but are looking for something a bit shorter, try Thuja North Pole. And if you can afford more width in the garden, rely on our bestselling Thuja Green Giant. These splendid Arborvitaes will give beautiful year-round form to your landscape! Zones 3-8.
