A Changing Color Show of Leaf and Bloom

Pale pink to white blooms add to the show over many weeks
Plant Patent Applied For

Has there ever been a more dramatically colorful Heucherella?! Three bright colors vie for attention at almost any given time on this perennial -- and that's only the foliage! The flowers are gorgeous, too!

The display begins in spring, when new leaves unfurl in bright gold overlaid with a dark shade of red. As the weeks pass, the gold disappears from the base of the leaves but remains along the veins and the edges, beautifully sculpting the shape of the plant. And by the time the warm summer weather arrives, the gold has turned to emerald green and the center of each leaf is glowing a rich, deep violet!

Before spring is out, however, this 9-inch-high, 20-inch-wide plant is topped with 16-inch flowerstems bearing masses of bell-shaped pale pink to white flowers! Drawing butterflies to 'Thunderbird,' the flowers remain into summer, an eye-catching sight in sun or shade.

'Thunderbird' achieves the best gold tones in sun, but also thrives in shadier settings. Vey easy to grow, it is a selection of x Heucherella, the intergeneric cross of Heuchera and Tiarella. Native vigor and careful breeding combine in this perennial to ensure that it is very resistant to pests and diseases, stands up to heat, humidity, drought, and cold, and fares well even in poor soils. Few plants are so adaptable!

This plant is an excellent choice for the front of the perennial border, containers, and cottage gardens. It combines well with all neighboring colors, offering a three-season display of rich, changing colors that few others can equal. Highly recommended! Zones 4-9.
