Weigela florida Variegata is a selection of an East Asian native combining hardiness and hummingbird appeal with delicate, creamy-edged foliage and a neat habit! From late spring to midsummer, the 4- to 6-foot shrub is overwhelmed with clusters of light pinkish-rose flowers. Yet it spreads only 5 to 7 feet.
Weigela are free-blooming shrubs that flower primarily in early summer. Excellent in the shrub border, they do best in full sun to light shade (some shade is necessary in areas with hot summers). Select a spot free from competing plant roots and a well-drained, yet moisture retentive soil. Weigelas bloom on last year's growth, so prune in summer immediately after flowering for a profusion of gorgeous color next season. Loves hot summers! Zones 4-8.
