Wheels of Wonder® Hot Pink Iceplant
The Biggest Flowers Ever!
The flowers on this incredible reblooming hardy Iceplant are TWICE the size of any other. Yep, 4 inches or more across, easily. Richly colored and very abundant, they begin in late spring and continue in waves all spring, summer, and into fall. You just won't believe the bloom strength of this perennial groundcover powerhouse!
Held above plump, succulent olive-green foliage, these blooms have a glowing yellow center and long, slender, very numerous petals of yellow at the base, hot pink all the way to the tip. They crowd atop the plant, facing the sun, so that all you see at the height of bloomtime is the little tips of the leaves underneath!
Just 6 to 8 inches high in full bloom, Wheels of Wonder® Hot Pink spreads up to 2 feet wide in no time. It's just made to line the hot driveway, cover a large patch of poor soil, or cascade in all directions from a container. Even a small planting has a big impact, so you can imagine what a large, generous swathe of this perennial will look like in the sunny garden.
And Wheels of Wonder® flowers continuously from spring until frost. Exceptionally drought-tolerant, this sun-loving plant forms a dense mat of succulent foliage. Given good soil drainage, some water the first season to get it going, and plenty of sunshine, there's just no stopping it!
If you like Hot Pink (and you will, we promise!), go ahead and consider adding two other stunning colors from the series: Golden and Fire. They flower at the same time, reach the same size, and generally make ideal companions! The Wheels of Wonder® series is the work of breeder Koichiro Nishikawa, who brought us Jewel of Desert® Iceplant as well!
And Wheels of Wonder® Hot Pink is just as tolerant of heat, humidity, and drought as traditional hardy iceplant. Pamper it the first year, then let it go -- it will thrive in the poorest conditions provided it has nonstop sun and good soil drainage. Let it spread down a slope or bank, anchoring the soil in place to prevent erosion. Design a mass planting in the baking-hot bed beside the driveway, where heat rises from the pavement all summer long. Or fill in those bare areas where the hose doesn't quite reach! With bigger blooms and a super-long season of bloom, how can you go wrong? Zones 5 to 10.
