Big yields, good weather resistance, and space-saving habit -- no wonder it won a 2004 AAS Award!

These 4-pound fruits glow inside and out!
95 days. Everything about Sunshine Hybrid is better than other Kabocha Squash varieties, from the sweet, nutty flavor to the glorious persimmon-orange color to the huge yields on compact plants! Winner of a 2004 All-America Selection Award, this is a winter squash you must grow and taste to believe!

These rounded, flattish 4-pound fruits are so lovely you may be tempted to display them rather than eat them -- but resist the impulse, because you wouldn't want to miss out on the fabulous flavor! Sunshine Hybrid is completely stringless, filled with succulent, ultra-sweet flesh with a nutty afterbite you'll love. The creamy-sweet flavor is brought out well when the fruit is baked, steamed, or even microwaved. Nutritious and delicious, Sunshine Hybrid belongs on your table this season!

Seeds can be direct-sown in areas with a growing season of at least 95 days, or begun indoors and transplanted for an 80-day growth time. The fruit signals its ripeness for picking when the stems turn brown and the rind turns nearly scarlet and quite firm. Be sure to harvest Sunshine from the garden before the first hard frost.

This space-saving vine needs only about 6 to 8 feet in which to ramble, so you can plan on more squash in less space than ever before with Sunshine! Enjoy this fantastic winter squash fresh in midsummer or stored for several months thereafter! Pkt is 10 seeds.

This is an Awesome Squash!
Amity from OK wrote (September 10, 2011):
This was my first year growing this squash and I was very impressed. I had 100% germination from the seeds, the plants were very healthy and grew rapidly. Even when the 100+ temperatures and drought hit this area in mid-July, these plants just kept on growing. I planted at the beginning of May and harvested the first week of August. My total harvest was 25 3-4lb squash. I just roasted my first two tonight after letting them age for 4 weeks and the flavor is wonderful! I turned part of the roasted squash into a batch of muffins and another part into soup - so don't just eat this plain, it can be used in a ton of recipes too! These will definitely be something I grow in the garden every year from here on out.
