Winter Thriller™ Mango Magic Lenten Rose
A Mature Plant Will Have 50+ Blooms at Once!
Mango Magic is part of the Winter Thriller™ series offered by Wayside Gardens alum Chris Hansen. Chris has been breeding Hellebores for more than 15 years, and his dedication has paid off with this high-performing, really exceptionally colorful series. Fully 3 inches wide, these flowers are suffused with color and remain on the plant for 12 weeks or more, from late winter into late spring in most climates. Incredible!
This Hellebore should become a mainstay of your shade border. It's simply the easiest plant you can grow, and among the longest-lived, too. Because it is poisonous, pests keep their distance -- including hungry deer and nibbling rabbits. Disease-free and very vigorous, it offers large, evergreen foliage of deep green that looks good year-round.
The blooms are large and nodding, held just above the foliage. Cut them at the top of the stem and float them in a bowl of water to show off their colorful interiors, or better yet, let them remain on the plant, decorating the shade garden during the final weeks of winter and well into spring. The blooms dry right on their stems, acquiring paler but no less interesting tones as they mature!
We predict that Mango Magic may become your favorite shade perennial, and that the blooms will be standouts in your garden. The plant itself reaches 20 inches high and up to 24 inches wide in partial to full shade, tolerating a wide range of stressors from dry soil to poor fertility. Pamper it the first few seasons, make sure the soil drainage is good, and you will find it virtually maintenance-free! Zones 4-8.
