Yarrow 'Red Velvet'
Reblooms all summer!
These rosy-red blooms, accented with a creamy eye, arise in giant 6-inch clusters all over compact plants in the sun-soaked garden. Happy in poor, dry soil, Red Velvet can take the steamiest, hottest, driest summers Mother Nature cares to throw your way. Deer won't nibble it, but butterflies will arrive by the dozen to sip nectar from these brilliant blossoms! You just can't go wrong with Red Velvet!
Many Yarrows tend to bleach out in the sun, but not Red Velvet. These blooms will be as vibrant in September as they were in June, and they're just made for lovely fresh and dried bouquets. Plan to grow a few extra plants just for cutting -- you'll be glad you did!
Red Velvet reaches just 18 inches tall and about 15 inches wide, and combines nicely with all your sun-loving summer bloomers. I think it looks splendid beside Coreopsis Creme Brulee and in front of exciting Butterfly Bush -- and the butterflies in my garden certainly agree! It's also compact enough for container growth, though it's so trouble-free you really owe it to yourself to let it transform the poor, dry spots in your garden!
Space plants about 15 to 18 inches apart and keep them deadheaded for even more blooms. Zones 4-8.
