Yellow Crown Imperial - Pack of 3
Utterly Unique and Always Showstopping!
These clear, lemony yellow blooms are bell-shaped and pendant, dangling down and out in a wide skirt. Lean in for a sniff and you will be surprised -- they have a skunky aroma that doesn't play well in the dining room vase but makes them impervious to nibbling deer, rabbits, and other critters, so that they will grow in meadow and other open settings. Very long-lived, yellow Crown Fritillary naturalizes slowly over time, rewarding you with colonies of one-of-a-kind spring blooms.
Expect these plants to reach 2½ to 3 feet high, with a base rosette of foliage and a very thick flowerstalk. They are heavy feeders and appreciate rich, well-worked soil. Once planted, they need to be left alone, so don't cultivate too closely around them. That said, they need almost no attention throughout the year!
Crown Fritillary has been a part of gardens since at least 1590, and is utterly unique. No spring bulb garden is complete without it, and you may find that it becomes one of your very favorite plants. Give it a try this season! Zones 5 to 8. Pack of 3 bulbs.
