An heirloom, dwarf variety of Brussels sprouts developed in 1941. Catskill Brussels sprouts create high yields of large, 2" round sprouts that are deep green in color. Sprouts are intensely flavored. To encourage the intense flavor, allow the sprouts to be hit with a frost.
Sprouts are just as good fresh as they are frozen. The compact and sturdy stems produce high yields of tasty sprouts. Plants mature between 24-30" tall.
This high-producing plant is a perfect choice for home gardeners. Seeds can be sown either indoors or outdoors. In the Northern U.S., sow seeds after the threat of frost has passed outdoors. In Southern U.S., Brussels sprouts make good fall crops.
Avoid planting when temperatures rise above 75 degrees to prevent bolting. Brussels sprouts are excellent steamed, boiled, roasted or sauteed. Blanch before freezing to help preserve the deep green color.
