Many of us are familiar with cayenne peppers only as a ground spice, so you'll love discovering the fresh, mildly spicy bite of this 2012 All-America Selection winner! Bred specially for containers, this compact plant stays small, but branches beautifully and sets masses of fruit. Even first-time gardeners can be successful with Cayennetta!

This plant reaches 24 to 30 inches tall and up to 20 inches wide, with excellent foliage cover to prevent the peppers from scorching. 3 to 4 inches long, the tapered fruit emerges bright green, then ripens to rich, glossy red. Always a winner in taste contests, it has a crunchy bite that combines mild heat with good juiciness and succulence. Yum!

Cayennetta has demonstrated good tolerance of both unseasonable heat and cold, and is a vigorous grower. Like all peppers, it helps keep pests away with its strongly scented and flavored fruit. You will love growing this delicious, heavy-bearing pepper on the patio or in the vegetable patch!

Start seeds indoors or, in climate with short growing seasons, outdoors at least one week after last frost. If starting indoors, allow 7 to 10 weeks for the seeds to mature into seedlings large enough to transplant safely. Set seedlings (or thin direct-sown seedlings) 2 feet apart in full sun. If planting many seedlings, space rows about 3 feet apart. Fertilize when the blooms appear, and water well. Fruit is most nutritious if allowed to ripen on the plant. Pkt is 10 seeds.
