'Laddawan' Ornamental Turmeric is a deciduous perennial offering summer interest. An elegant, long-blooming beauty, 'Laddawan' Ornamental Turmeric flowers abundantly in showy spires of petal-like green to pale pink bracts surrounding small light yellow true flowers and repeat blooms throughout summer. Borne singly, each flower sits atop a rigid stem that makes an excellent cut flower.
This easy to grow rhizomatous plant, also known as ornamental turmeric or a Siam tulip, has an upright habit of narrow, lance-shaped, dark green leaves. A tropical species and member of the ginger family, it grows well in climates with hot, high-humidity summers. 'Laddawan' Ornamental Turmeric prefers sun to part shade and mildly acidic to neutral, moist, well-drained soil. Although this variety is more drought tolerant than most, especially in partial shade, it needs consistent moisture throughout the growing season in full sun and should never be allowed to dry out.
For optimal performance, add organic matter, such as compost, to soils with high sand and clay content before planting and add one of our soil enhancers in spring and summer. It requires no deadheading and is deer and rabbit resistant.
Consider planting in large groups or as an accent to blue salvia, euvolvulus, and caladium.
