Description

Opalescent flesh has a sugary, caramel, and honey flavor

One of the earliest fruit trees to be cultivated, indigenous to regions from Asiatic Turkey to northern India, and grown widely in Mediterranean countries, Ficus Neverella Fig is a temperate species that prefers full sun, dry weather during fruiting, and some winter chilling. Neverella, also referred to as the Osborne Prolific, grows very well in cool coastal climates. In colder climates, it should be planted in a warm, dry location and generously mulched before winter.

Ficus Neverella Figs grow well in a wide range of soil types and have ornamental value in the garden, or container, growing as a tall shrub or small tree, from 8 feet to 10 feet high. Deciduous leaves are broad and deeply lobed.

Fruit is borne on spring new growth and, depending on cultivar and climate, generally ripens from August to October. Ficus Neverella Figs can be allowed to dry on the tree and gathered after falling, or they can be picked ripe and allowed to dry. Frequent turning during the drying process improves the quality of the fruit.

Ficus Neverella Fig has brown skinned fruit with opalescent flesh that has a sugary, caramel, and honey flavor. It can be eaten fresh or dried and can also be canned or preserved. The fruit contains significant amounts of calcium, potassium, phosphorus, and iron.

Drought tolerant, usually satisfied with natural rainfall, this tree is a good choice for xeriscapes and water-wise gardens. Deer Resistant.

Ficus Neverella Fig is a non-GMO item and is grown with sustainable and ecologically sound growing practices.
