Description

An ornamental as well as medicinal herb

Days to Maturity: 80 to 90

Sometimes called the "Medieval Aspirin," golden feverfew is grown as a medicinal herb as well as an ornamental. The dwarf plant has attractive lobed, golden foliage and, throughout summer, bears sprays of small daisylike flowers with white petals surrounding a button-like yellow disk. Long-lasting, the flowers attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds and make wonderful cut flowers. They can also be dried and added to potpourri.

A semi-evergreen, short-lived, herbaceous perennial, golden feverfew, also known as bachelor's buttons, is a member of the aster family (Asteraceae). The compact, bushy plant has an erect, clumping, mounding habit of fern-like, aromatic, green leaves that works well in beds and borders. In optimal conditions, feverfew self-seeds freely if plants are not deadheaded immediately after blooming.

Golden feverfew prefers full sun to partial shade and moist, humusy, well-drained soil but tolerates sand and loam as well as a wide range of pH levels. Drought tolerant and deer resistant

Sow feverfew seeds indoors, gradually acclimatize to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days before planting in warm spring soil after all risk of frost has passed.
