A gorgeous and vigorous fruit!Josephine Raspberry is a late season bearing raspberry that extends the harvest time into fall. It has beautiful large red berries. It is an upright grower and loves the sun! Grows well in zones 5-7.

Most varieties of berries fruit during the summer of the second year and are known as 'floricane fruiting'. This is a late season Primocane (ever-bearing/fall-bearing) variety. You can tell them apart from Floricane (summer-bearing) because primocanes are thicker and have green flesh. Primocanes have five leaflets and longer internodes. Ever-bearing fruits produce fruit on the primocanes and the floricanes. They occur at different times, such as the primocane fruit occurs in the late summer or early fall of the first year. When growing this berry, you will want to prune back the bush after they produce in the late summer/fall. Cut them close to the ground for the best quality.

Raspberries like full sun and good air circulation. They do best in enriched garden soil that is moisture retentive but well-drained. Plant about 3 feet apart in the row, or train up a trellis. Plant about 1 inch deep in heavy soils, 2 inches in loose, sandy soils. For best growth, cut back immediately after planting, to prevent the plant from setting fruit the first year. This will give you much stronger growth and better harvests in years to come. Water well during growth, and consider mulching to conserve water until the following spring, when the mulch should be removed to let the plants warm up.
