A First Editions® variety, Ligustrum Straight Talk® is a flowering evergreen shrub offering year-round interest. In late spring, this ornamental shrub blooms in fragrant tiny white flowers that are followed in fall by small, glossy black berries, which persist throughout winter, attracting birds.
A Ligustrum vulgare, commonly called privet, Straight Talk has a narrow, upright habit and adapts well to urban conditions. The plant will naturalize by self-seeding in optimal conditions. It is a popular specimen, vertical accent, mixed bed, and hedging plant.
Cold hardy and easy to grow, Ligustrum Straight Talk grows best in sunny to partly sunny locations with average, dry to medium moist, well-draining soils, but it tolerates a wide range of soils as well as drought. Any desired pruning should be done immediately after flowering.
