The Magellan series is the best dwarf Zinnia ever for big, fully double blooms on compact, long-blooming, early plants. If you need a summer's worth of big, bold color in a neat little package, rely on Magellan! And now you can get one seed packet each of 6 separate Magellan colors at a great price!
Unlike most bedding Zinnias, Magellan doesn't sacrifice flower size for plant size . . . meaning you get big, fully double 4- to 5-inch blooms on plants so modest they barely reach a foot high and wide! The small plant size makes the flowers look even larger, so they're really eye-popping in the bed and in containers.
Zinnia is one of Nature's best gifts, a super-easy seed to sow directly into the warm spring soil. Many a gardener got his or her start pushing a zinnia seed into an egg carton planter or little plastic pot as part of a school project! All they ask is good soil drainage, plenty of sunshine, and adequate water. But it you feed the plants regularly too, the blooms will really pop!
Share this quick-and-easy summer bloomer with all your gardening friends, assemble cutflower arrangements to bring to events, and be sure to take pictures of all the butterflies that visit this bright magnet! You get 6 seed packets in all in this collection, each containing 25 seeds of one color.
These are festive and vigorous plants for use in borders, bedding, edging, containers, and as a fresh cut flower. They will be covered in flowers from summer to frost. Color patterns are solid, zoned, or multi-colored, petal arrangement is either single or double, and flower heads are often chrysanthemum-, dahlia-, or cactus-like. Zinnia haageana, Mexican Zinnia, grows 12-18 inches tall and has narrow 1-2 inch long by 1/2 inch wide leaves. The 1-21/2 inch flowers are red, mahogany, yellow, or orange. Color patterns are solid or two-toned and petal arrangement is either single or double. Park Seed has been handling and packing vegetable and flower seeds for 145 years, a history that has given us a great understanding of how each variety should be cared for and maintained throughout every step of theprocess, from collection to shipping.
When packing our seeds, the majority are actually done by hand (with extreme care!), and we often over-pack them, so you're receiving more than the stated quantity.
The Park Seed Gold Standard
Heirloom Seeds are open-pollinated -- they are not hybrids. You can gather and save heirloom seed from year to year and they will grow true to type every year, so they can be passed down through generations. To be considered an heirloom, a variety would have to be at least from the 1940's and 3 generations old (many varieties are much older -- some 100 years or more!).
Hybrid seed are the product of cross-pollination between 2 different parent plants, resulting in a new plant/seed that is different from the parents. Unlike Heirloom seed, hybrid seed need to be re-purchased new every year (and not saved). They usually will not grow true to type if you save them, but will revert to one of the parents they were crossed with and most likely look/taste different in some way.
