'Moon Lagoon' Eucalyptus is a small shrub primarily grown as a cut-foliage plant for its florist-quality stems of aromatic leaves. This finely textured shrub has silvery green-grey juvenile leaves, similar to Eucalyptus cinerea, but smaller. Immature boughs are harvestable for foliage decoration or for additions to floral arrangements, fresh and dried.
A Eucalyptus latens variety, commonly called fine leaved mallee, 'Moon Lagoon' has an upright habit. It makes an excellent specimen in the landscape or in a container. Grown in the landscape, 'Moon Lagoon' can grow quite large, reaching a mature height of 20 feet tall in optimal conditions, but it can be pruned to maintain any desired size, and heavy pruning will also maintain the coveted juvenile foliage. Grown in a container, the plant will be much smaller.
An Australian native, eucalyptus is most at home in Mediterranean climates. It is an easy-grow, easy-care plant that performs best in a sunny location with average to moderately fertile, moist, well-draining soil. The plant is drought tolerant and deer resistant.
