Enjoy a wealth of very large, attractive, globe-shaped flowerheads all summer with Nikko Blue! For decades this has been the classic name in mophead Hydrangeas, sporting beautiful flowerheads of pink or blue (depending on soil pH) that last and last. Indescribably lush!

Nikko Blue is renowned for its sheer number of blooms as well as for their size and intense color. Despite its name, the flowers can be pink in alkaline (lime) soils, but will be a rich blue in acidic conditions. You simply can't go wrong -- both colors are magnificent!

This shrub likes moist soil (that's why its genus name starts with "Hydra"!) and needs a bit of shade in most climates, but other than that is quite adaptable. Long-lived and almost maintenance free, it is ready to become the mainstay of your foundation planting, a living hedge rippling through your woodland garden, or a border standout! Expect it to reach 4 to 6 feet high and wide within 10 years, becoming larger in some climates but staying close to this size in most conditions. Perfect for the home landscape!

Hydrangeas are among the showiest of summer-blooming woody plants. Shade-tolerant, they grow well under trees or on the shady side of a building. Plant singly as focal points, or mass together for stunning borders. Forms of H. macrophylla are also splendid for coastal plantings. Dry the flowerheads for beautiful arrangements that last for months! Zones 5 (with protection) -9.

Truly blue all season with no help. I'm in zone 5 and they perform well under my Pear tree. They tend to wilt on warm days but watering perks them up in no time.
