Ninebark

Incredible year-round interest!

This fast grower swiftly reaches its mature height of about 10 feet tall and wide, filling a large area with its colorful foliage, distinctive peeling bark, and dainty summer flower-show. Similar to Spiraea, the blooms of Ninebark form enchanting orbs of small 5-petaled flowers. As the bloom show winds down, attractive red fruit ripens, keeping the color show going on into fall. Ninebark (Genus: Physocarpus) is not picky about soil, so long as it is kept moist (not wet). To enhance the form and bushiness, you can give it a good pruning after the bloom season. Hardy in zones 3 to 7.
