Peanuts are a warm-weather root crop (a legume, not a nut) used for peanut butter, oil, and many other food products. Peanut plants are either upright and erect or spreading, with some doing well in containers. There are 4 main types of peanuts: Virginia (the largest; usually roasted) and Runner (medium-sized; good for roasting), which are bushy; Spanish (small; used for oil, peanut butter, and snacks) and Valencia (often roasted in-the-shell or boiled fresh), which are mostly erect. Easy and nutrient-rich, peanuts are great for the home garden!
