Ruby Spice Summersweet

'Ruby Spice' Summersweet

This native shrub is easy to grow and very pest and disease resistant!

Item # 46281
Ships in Fall at the proper planting time for your zone. View Schedule.
'Ruby Spice' Summersweet is the darkest red of all of the Summersweet varieties. This lovely shrub produces sweetly fragrant rosy blooms in late summer. Then in autumn, the handsome green foliage ignites into flaming shades of sunshine yellow! An easy-to-grow, multiseason shrub you will really enjoy in your landscape.

Seldom exceeding 4 to 6 feet tall and 4 feet wide, 'Ruby Spice' Summersweet is pest and disease resistant. It is also tolerant to heat and humidity, so this cold hardy shrub is so easy to care for. It grows best in moist, slightly acid sandy soil in sun to light shade, though as a hardy native shrub, it tolerates a range of conditions (including shade, acidic wet soil, and salt spray). The color is best in the sun. This shrub is ideal in a foundation planting but also looks great as a hedge or border to add some colorful foliage interest into your garden.

These shrubs have been a delight

The flowers are gorgeous with a nice smell. They last a fair amount of time which is a huge plus. They were quite thirsty during the first season so dont forget to water. The leaves turn a nice yellow color in the fall.

Lovely Native Shrub

This is a beauty! This summer bloomer can put on a nice show. 'Ruby Spice' has pretty flowers that smell good too. Once established, it seems immune to whatever nature has to throw at it--drought, heat, cold winters, wet soils. I was standing several feet away and could smell those lovely ruby flowers. A winner!
