A Proven Winners® ColorChoice® Flowering Shrubs variety, Sarcococca Sweet & Lo™ sweet box is a low-growing, broadleaf evergreen shrub offering year-round interest, blooming late winter to early spring. Borne on deep purple stems, the unusual thread-like and red-tipped white flowers have a delightful fragrance, similar to jasmine, and are an important food source for early pollinators.
A Sarcococca hookeriana, commonly called sweet box, Sweet & Lo has a compact, mounded habit of glossy, dark green foliage. Extra bushy and full bodied, this shrubby ground cover is highly versatile and suckers lightly, improving its ground covering habit. It makes a great specimen, especially in a container, but is shown to best effect when massed or grouped in beds and borders.
Tough and durable, sweet box grows best in partly sunny to shady locations with cool, moist, acidic soils. It tolerates heavy shade and is deer resistant.
