Terrific holding ability

Days to Maturity: 80 from direct sow

The savory, ultra-healthy alternative to pasta, spaghetti squash has always had just one disadvantage: unlike the real thing, you can't eat the leftovers cold for breakfast. Now Small Wonder hybrid has come along to solve that problem and get rid of the guilt spaghetti squash lovers have felt about not being able to eat an entire monster-sized squash. Small Wonder comes in "single serving" size, with just enough yummy strands to satisfy one or two hungry people. Sounds odd, but it's true—you'll actually get more fruit from this smaller variety, because you needn't waste a single savory strand.

Small Wonder hybrid is an attractive golden orange oval with a pleasantly chunky shape and creamy yellow flesh. It is well "stranded"—just slice it in half, steam, and fluff up the "noodles" for a delicious dinner. Just like its pasta counterpart, spaghetti squash is yummy with tomato- and cream-based sauces, as well as on its own with a little salt and butter or a squeeze of lemon juice. What a healthy, flavorful alternative to pasta.

This plant reaches 4 to 6 feet long, with a vining habit and superior productivity. Plan on a summerlong feast of delicious spaghetti squash with Small Wonder—and if you can't eat it all at once, don't worry. Small Wonder has some of the best after-harvest holding ability of any squash we've seen.

Like all squash, Small Wonder grows best in full sunshine and rich, well-drained soil. Pick the fruit when it's 5 or 6 inches long and weighs about 3 pounds.

I will grow the Small Wonder as long as they sell seeds for it!

These seeds performed beautifully. They germinated quickly, produced short but sturdy vines, and out of a row of maybe 3-4 feet in length, I harvested 16 squash last fall. I cured them in the sun, washed and disinfected with diluted vinegar, and they have kept amazingly well now for over 6 months. Because this variety is fast-maturing, I direct seed them fairly late (end of June, beginning of July) to avoid vine-borer egg laying season and still get a good crop. I highly recommend the Small Wonder!

Good mini

I've grown these two years in a row. Both years I have been pleased with the production. The fruits are small as promised. About half is perfect to feed one person and the other half keeps at least a week covered in the fridge. They have a very mild taste, which means you can use them in almost anything. The only negative is that they don't tolerate powdery mildew well. Expect to spray if you want the vines to continue to produce. Though I have had plants bounce back after the conditions have passed. I still had production during the summer heat, though the spider mites will hit them in dry hot conditions. Grown in Zone 8, central Texas.

Will grow every year.

These have far outdone any spaghetti squash I have ever grown and I grow them every year.. My vines are totally loaded with squash!! They have been easy to grow and no pest issues. Just about ready to harvest them. Be sure to plant where the vines have room to spread as they do spread!

Surprise Favorite

This shopper rated the product 5 out of 5 stars

Had no idea what to expect from Small Wonder. The seeds don't have pictures on the packet! How happy I was to cut open the first one and see the perfect Spaghetti squash for two! I microwaved them and had them for lunch at work! Fun to let co-workers watch and get surprised, too.

small spaghetti squash

These are great. Now that I'm retired & not cooking for a family, these give me 2 large portions to cook, 1 portion for each half. They even grow up my chain link fence where they take up very little room in my garden. The sturdy vines hold the maturing squash without any support other than the fence. The only attention they need is to occasionally direct their growth & make sure the squash do not grown between the fence links. I was happily surprised that they kept through the entire winter in my garage without any molding or spoilage. I just store them in cardboard boxes near the door to the house.
